A surprise retro technology addon, from true and Cprossu

We like retrocomputing. Working with old computers reminds us of times when computers were far easier to understand. When the computers themselves were fun and interesting. When one could know every little thing that is happening and how long it would take... when computers were more visceral and unrefined. 

true made an addon for admirers and users of retro computing tech. We will freely give away between 2/3 to 3/4 of the addons we've made for this year; if you're into vintage computer stuff you might just get one at con. If you want to guarantee getting your hands on one, then help us fund this project. Pre-ordering an addon will reserve one for you to pick at DC33 (pickup times and location TBD). PICK UP IN PERSON ONLY. If you aren't going to be at DC33 or have someone there to pick up, then please don't order yet - if we don't sell enough to pay for the project then we'll have some available with shipping later.

Your order is funding not just your addon, but 2 or 3 others that we can give away at DC33.

The visual design is a secret for now. Please, don't have high expectations; this is a rapidly designed badge addon. We hope people like and enjoy it.

Production status:

• Boards: 100% done, received
• Final soldering: 100%
• 3D printed parts: 100%
• Final assembly: 35% (estimated completion by Sun Aug 3; running late)
• Code: 100% functional but maybe more features and polish will be added
• Final Test: 0% (estimated completion by Wed Aug 6 - perhaps we'll have some last minute inspiration)

Specifications:

• A microcontroller of some kind... a modern one, sadly
• At least one antiquated but still accessible computer peripheral port
• Knobs, switches, or buttons, with a virtual toggle system
• For sure it has LEDs on it
• Manual provided online - and is REQUIRED reading to program the addon!

Things to note:

• YOUR ORDER IS A RESERVATION. ALL ORDERS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP AT DEFCON 33.
• Checkout with Amazon Pay button at the top. Follow the checkout flow.
• Half way through checkout, it may show a shipping price. This will go away on the final page before ordering.
• Pickup location is TBD. Once known, the location will be provided here.
• Provide the order number and name on the order (or a secret word you put in the comments field in your order) when picking up.
• If you cannot pick up by Sat evening, unless other arrangements are made, your preorder will be considered a DONATION and given to someone.
• If you want to buy one and have it shipped, HOLD OFF ON ORDERING. Right now all orders are for PICK UP ONLY.
